Stormvogels Alter Ego Jazzbarock Consort was founded in 1998 by Dutch writer/musician/artist Stormvogel. The group, consisting of musicians with different backgrounds like jazz, rock, classical, contemporary and celtic music, performs in differing line up, is presented as an artistic knighthood. The compositions by Stormvogel, called 'Drakenburger Concerto's', were inspired by music off all genres, ages and parts of the world. Elements of jazz, rock , classical and world are mixed into an unique style called 'jazzbarock'. Characteristics are the ostinate and odd meter grooves, odd meldoic scales, combination of arrangement and free impro, the use of analogue synthesizers and an historic-mystical context to the music. On occasion Stormvogel also performs as a stagepoet, exploring the field of psychedelic verbal trance. In the past guestplayers likeRob van den Broeck, Thijs van Otterloo, Daphne Balvers, Wieke Garcia, Chander Sardjoe, Berna Kousemaker joined Stormvogel at his round table. In 2007 Stormvogels Alter Ego played with Thomas W. Andersen (bas), Onno Witte (slagwerk), Thijs van Otterloo (sax) en Tineke Postma (sax). In his project "Synergie" danser/choreographer Vraja Sundari Keilman joined the group. Anno 2009 Alter Ego consists of Onno Witte (drums, vocals), Wiro Mahieu (bass), Remko Smid Stahlhosen (sax, EWI), Arjen de Graaf (violin, vocals) and Wieke Garcia (gaita, percussion, vocals).
