Dutch tenor saxophonist Ruud de Vries started playing saxophone at age of 27. Developing his playing 'streetwise' he became one of the Dutch tenor sax players with a true own sound and his own way of playing. Ruud was very succesful with the two tenor combination 'Kiers & De Vries' and played on many jazz festivals, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague.
Today Ruud plays jazz in various combinations. He leads his own band, the BETER R. DE VRIES BAND, a groovy jazzfunk group that plays jazz like it was originally meant for: to improvise AND to dance on! Next to this remarkable band, he has a more traditional jazz quartet (Scoops). Furthermore he plays with dance DJ's (www.partysax.nl) and runs his trendy Extra Lounge Concept (www.extralounge.nl.) With tenor saxophonist Boris Vanderlek he started the Tenorbattle, a 3 tenors tribute to the Legendary Texas Tenor saxophonists like Illinois Jacquet and Arnett Cobb.
