“A master blender of Antillean and other Latin American rhythms with Jazz harmonies”
Curaçao-born pianist, composer and arranger Randal Corsen (1972) blends jazz with traditional Antillian and Latin-American music in a highly original manner. Randal’s compositions and arrangements contain modern and progressive harmonies, while his solo’s are characterized by great virtuosity, rhythmic perfection and much diversity.
Besides leading his own trio, quartet and the Antillean Big Band “Tumbabo” he is also pianist and musical director of the latin-jazz quintet “Bye-Ya!”. Since graduating cum laude from the Brabants Conservatorium in 1998, Randal has performed with numerous jazz and world music artists such as Izaline Calister, Denise Jannah, Ronald Snijders, Gerardo Rosales, Roy Hargrove, Cedric Dandare, David Sánchez and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
For his album “Evolushon" he received the Edison Jazz Award 2004.
His new release “Armonia” goes a step ahead with this fusion. Randal is joined by a stellar line-up: Scott Colley on bass, Antonio Sanchez on drums, Pernell Saturnino on percussion, Paquito D'Rivera on clarinet and altosax and Roy Hargrove on trumpet and flugelhorn.
