PitchWhiteStorm
PitchWhiteStorm started at Festival de Muzen 2006 as an electroacoustic jazzproject, initiated by Dutch avantgarde/jazzrock musicians Jeroen Pek (flutes), Onno Witte (drums) and Stormvogel (piano/synthesizers). After a while, the quartet was completed by virtuose bassplayer David de Marez Oyens. PWS is in search for a new sound in contemporary music, combining accoustic jazz with progrock, avantgarde, electronic vintage, impro, classical and traditional music.
Their debutalbum 'The View & the Tales' was published in March 2008 by UpCycle / Jazzshop Records [JSR06008]. The album contains a suite of 10 pieces, composed by Jeroen Pek, arranged by PWS. The album was recorded at Studio White Noise (Riel) by Onno Witte. Its cover (including the PWS emblem) was designed by Stormvogel (STAB). The PWS quartet toured in The Netherlands, France and Spain (sometimes with bassplayer Wiro Mahieu) before starting the new project PWS Exchange with guests Mark Thur (electronics), Oene van Geel (violin) and Kristina Fuchs (vocals/hang).
At the same time PWS produced its second album 'Four Layers of Abstraction', with Pek, Stormvogel, Witte, De Marez Oyens, Thur and Van Geel. The album contains some vintage electroacoustic improvisations, recorded in several layers on different locations.
The accoustic and analog instruments are manipulated live by laptop virtuoso Mark Thur. The release concert took place in SJU Jazzpodium Utrecht with collaboration of radiomaster Co de Kloet (NPS/Radio6). Soon PWS was covered by national radio VPRO Radio6 in january 2010 (Aad van Nieuwkerk.
