"Twelve Pieces"
This album is the second chapter in my musical cooperation with Mike Mainieri. After a number of tours in a larger, electrical setting a few years back, we came up with the idea to do a project in a more intimate, acoustic setting in which Mike’s vibraphone would be fully integrated.
I had written a number of previously unreleased tunes that seemed great for this type of group, and I composed another couple of songs specifically for the project. Mike wanted to contribute as a composer too, supplying his intriguing twelve-tone piece ‘All In A Row’.
We were fully confident at the recording sessions, as we’d hit things off really well at our rehearsals and a try-out performance, where the timbre of the vibraphone turned out to be a perfect match with the guitars I wanted to use. The musical cooperation between Mike and the trio was smooth and inspiring from the very first note, and in no time things felt as if we had been playing together for years.
The compositions we had selected turned out to work extremely well for this particular band. Most of them were recorded in a single take, and we ended up including every single one of them on this album.
So here it is: TWELVE pieces that have found their destination, gathered on an album that we present to the outer world with due pride and confidence.
