What to do if you can't come up with a bandname?
You just ask the audience at your first gig.
And the best name proposed was NDN, as, according to the winner, No Drummer was Needed.
NDN plays jazz standards, and pop ballads, and muppet songs, and movie themes, and tomorrow most likely something else as well.
And all those songs are approached with a combination of rhythm and lyricism. Think funk grooves under Summertime, or a dreamy version of Leonard Cohen's Famous Blue Raincoat...

Vocal Diary One
Solo improvisations with voice, lyrics and live electronics
Is it possible to perform with less?
One person, one voice.
With only two hands, two feet, two ears.
But also one head, one heart
This will sure result in a personal sound.
A sound with a story.
Something like a diary.
With notes about yesterday, last week,
then, now, tomorrow.
With notes about things
the singer is yet unaware of.
About Ineke's first solo concert at the Utrecht Jazz Fest 2009 the press wrote:
The quality level of the studio concerts was high. Singer Ineke van Doorn, who started the series on Wednesday evening, gave a stunning solo performance. Just assisted by simple electronic effects, she capti

Singer Ineke van Doorn has been described as the 'Adventurer among the Dutch singers'. Until 2001 she could mostly be heard with the 'Vandoorn' quartet which she co-leads with guitarist Marc van Vugt. Since then the voyage of discovery has been undertaken in a trio-setting whith altosaxplayer and 'Boy Edgar Prize' winner Paul van Kemenade. They play personal interpretations of jazz and pop standards and a lot of new repertoire. Some of the songs are sung in Dutch. Effortlessly they change positions as soloist and accompanist. Chance and spontaneity play an important role.

Eric-Jan Overbeek (1967) had his first piano lessons at the age of eight and began his musical career playing classical piano in church. At fourteen, he heard Fats Domino play the Swanee River Boogie and it became clear that he wanted to be a boogie-woogie man. Soon he discovered Dutch boogie players like André Valkering and the legendary Rob Hoeke, who became a good friend until he passed away in 1999. Of course he listened to Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson (the three “kings of boogie- woogie”) but being invited on stage by Hoeke and Valkering influenced his playing even more. Other influences include Dr.John, Ray Charles and unexpectedly guitarists B.B.King and the Ma

PitchWhiteStorm started at Festival de Muzen 2006 as an electroacoustic jazzproject, initiated by Dutch avantgarde/jazzrock musicians Jeroen Pek (flutes), Onno Witte (drums) and Stormvogel (piano/synthesizers). After a while, the quartet was completed by virtuose bassplayer David de Marez Oyens. PWS is in search for a new sound in contemporary music, combining accoustic jazz with progrock, avantgarde, electronic vintage, impro, classical and traditional music.
Their debutalbum 'The View & the Tales' was published in March 2008 by UpCycle / Jazzshop Records [JSR06008]. The album contains a suite of 10 pieces, composed by Jeroen Pek, arranged by PWS. The album was recorded at Studio White N

The result of these masters interacting is a recording that is easily one of the high points of this year in jazz. It has everything—very cool, laid-back swing, exhilarating, razor-sharp intensity, startling emotional intensity—all combined with a simple sense of the players having a good time.
By its end, the central falling interval of Rotator will have sunken deep into the unconscious—it was everywhere but never repeated.
This is the magic of jazz.

Fall 2006 – Guitarist Tim Langedijk formed his own trio. He found equal players in Haye Jellema (drums) and Udo Pannekeet (bass). The triumvirate has developed a play style that illuminates every corner of a trio, from rough and rugged mountains descending to serene soundscapes. With diversity and expressiveness as a starting point. The organic music of the trio moves close to the field of contemporary jazz with linkages to the country and fusion. The debut album “Testimonials” from 2008 was very well received. The most recent album entitled “Inside The House” was just released (January 2010). On this album you’ll hear the trio looking for new boundaries.
