AKA MOON

Returning from a unique time among the Aka pygmies of central Africa, Michel HATZIGEORGIOU, Fabrizio CASSOL and Stéphane GALLAND released their debut album, a recording soaked with the confidence eminated from their experience among the Aka. The seven compositions written by Fabrizio CASSOL combine improvisation and composition, polyrhythms and harmony, including new European jazz and traditional sounds. Aka Moon makes for a tight group sound without masking each group member’s induvidual qualities. Lightness, accuracy and power are just some of the descriptive features of their music that bridges the gap between jazz and hard rock, incorperating different levels of interpretation. Their music is refreshing and original, inspiring one informed critic to comment: "Aka Moon is to modern jazz what a weekend on the moon is to travel agents: the future."

One thing is guaranteed: Anyone who has seen this top notch formation perform will confirm that Aka Moon is at its best on stage. Aka Moon’s is now an internationally acclaimed group having played all over Belgium, Netherlands, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the USA. Unanimously praised by the press. This exceptional band now moves further into the international sphere with their latest recording made in India, featuring guests Raghunath SETH (flute), Aneesh PRADHAN (tabla), and S. SHANKARANARAYANAN (mridangam) who help the band rise to new heights.
