Eddy Doorenbos

Zijn muzikale loopbaan begon o [more...]

Efkes Anders Jasskapel

Image of 'Efkes Anders Jasskapel' In the first place the performance of this streetparade-band should be a pleasant happening for the audience and -last but not least- for
themselves.
With this philosophy a group of musicians started the EFKES ANDERS JASSKAPEL in 1981.
The many friends they made and the feedback of the audience underline the value of this concept. With their pure and uncomplicated way of
playing jazz they soon make contact with the audience. Their strongest point is the clearly visible enthusiasm.

A big part of their performance is based on traditional streetparade tunes. Although no puritans themselves, they interpret the music of the
old New Orleans bands to reach the audience of today. Among quick tunes [more...]

Electric Barbarian is the group that Floris Vermeulen created in the year 2000, and they perform a mix of drum’n bass and jazz improvisation.

The core of the band consists of trumpet, bass and drums.
Because of the harmonic instrument being replaced by the Belgium turntable wizard Grazzhoppa, the music sounds surprisingly fresh. Electric Barbarian combines drum’n bass and jungle with European improvised music.

The pace for this band was set at festival ‘Les Trois [more...]

EMIEL VAN EGDOM Musician, composer, arranger, guitarist, swordmaster, studio owner

Image of 'EMIEL VAN EGDOM Musician, composer, arranger, guitarist, swordmaster, studio owner' Live, every tune has it's very own different expressive charge...
Ton Pagen for JazzNews
When Emiel Van Egdom plugs in his guitar, the riffs, runs and scales that he will play will reflect the influences of his European heritage and the stylings of America's be-bop and swing greats
Brian Arrington, reporter, NY.
Hybrid Groove: "4 stars! Emiel Jams! The tunes lay down some serious guitar jamming over a propulsive groove.
NPR, JAZZ, 52nd Street.
Hybrid Groove: "There's spirit in spades throughout the album"

Hybrid Groove: "When Emiel opens the floodgates and begins soloing, it's "no holds barred". Darn good album!"

Eric Boeren 4tet

The Eric Boeren 4tet began by concentrating on the early quartet music of Ornette Coleman. That repertoire was ‘pulled off the record’ and was interspersed with Boeren’s own compositions. Over the years more and more original compositions have been added to the band’s repertoire.

The line-up of the Eric Boeren 4tet is comparable to that of the Ornette Coleman Quartet of the early sixties. The big difference between the two quartets is the way in which the material is handled. Whereas soloists alternated in the Coleman Quartet, in the Boeren 4tet all four musicians share the improvisational space on an equal basis. A collective vision, where musicians have the improvisational ro [more...]

Erman Dirikcan Trio

Image of 'Erman Dirikcan Trio' The passion for adventure and the ease of interaction between these three adepts of the jazz tradition manifests in a singular style and new vocabulary exclusive to the togetherness that is the Erman Dirikcan Trio.
Performing in local clubs/festivals in the Netherlands for a year, their music has continuously evolved into more sophistication as the compositions well arranged with the influence of time signatures and melodies from world music became hybridized by the free flow of expression among the members of the band and their shared quest for originality.
Highly post-modern harmonies result from the use of the fretless guitar with various effects and live electronics which also provides [more...]

Estrella y Esquina 25

Image of 'Estrella y Esquina 25' With this group, Estrella Acosta blends Cuban and jazz idioms: "In jazz, standard songs are often dressed up in Latin fashion. We do the opposite: approach Cuban and Latin traditionals in a jazzy and improvisational way..."
This is the quintet that Estrella is presenting currently, next to her eight-piece band Estrella’s Guajira, which was featured at the North Sea Festival 2005 and will be touring the USA and Canada in September 2007.
Estrella's quintet was chosen to participate in the JazzImpuls concert series and during the 2004-2005 season played 25 theater concerts in major venues all over the Netherlands, which were very well received.

Estrella's Guajira - Cuban Country Songs

Image of 'Estrella's Guajira - Cuban Country Songs' An enthusiastic bunch of (mostly) Cubans that do what they like best: play the music they grew up with, as heard through today's ears, with plenty of space for creative soloing.
The group's cd, Alma Guajira - Cuban country songs, was nominated for an Edison award, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammys.
Estrella's band tours the USA and Canada in September 2007. Earlier activities include a TV performance for VPRO's Vrije Geluiden (see our website!) and a very successful concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2005. August 2006 the group was the main attraction at the Dias Latinos Festival in Amersfoort. In september 2007, "Estrella's Guajira" successfully toured in the US and Canada, playing fe [more...]

Estudiantina Ensemble

Danzón Orquestra “Estudiantina Ensemble”

On november 24, 2001 Ricardo “Arístides” Bekema founded the Estudiantina Ensemble representing a revival of the estudiantina groups that were popular in the eastern region of Cuba during the late 19th century.

The name Estudiantina Ensemble came from his dear friend and musical teacher “Inaudis Paisán Mallet” who was at that time the director of the last estudiantina in the whole of Cuba Estudiantina Invasora. Ricardo followed in the footsteps of his master in dedication, preservation and continuation of the traditional danzón music in the estudiantina tradition from Santiago de Cuba and the Eastern Orient provinces of Cuba.
