Five brothers was started in 2007 bij saxophone-player Lawrence Blinxma. The name is derived from the 50's Mulligan tune by the same name.
Although the line-up is nearly the same as Gerry Mulligan's pianoless quartets, Mulligan is not the only source of inspiration for the quartet. The quartet also plays compositions of the bandmembers and of different composers like Misha Mengelberg and even Chick Corea.
The quartet likes to colour in- and outside the lines with a lot of soul, fun, and energy by two lyrical saxophone-players and a fantastic rythm section.
